Much of the work that keeps BMPC’s campus safe, welcoming, and well-maintained happens behind the scenes. A number of important maintenance and infrastructure projects have been completed recently, with additional improvements continuing throughout the summer. Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to caring for the buildings and grounds that support worship, ministry, music, education, and community life.

Earlier this summer, a new panic button system was installed in the Sanctuary, Ministries Center, Chapel, and Education Buildings, providing an additional layer of security for staff, volunteers, and visitors. The system has been well received by front desk volunteers and clergy. The next phase of the project will focus on training staff, clergy, deacons, and volunteers in threat awareness, emergency response procedures, and the proper use of the new system.

Significant work has also been completed to maintain the church’s buildings. Roof and gutter inspections and cleanings were finished for the Sanctuary, Chapel, Ministries Building, and church manses. Following several winter-related leaks in the Education Building, extensive repairs addressed damaged slate shingles, deteriorated sections of the flat roof, failed sealants, and flashing.

Behind the scenes, the church’s technology infrastructure received a major upgrade with the replacement of every network switch across campus, along with nearly 400 network cables that support phones, computers, security doors, livestreaming equipment, lighting controls, and other essential systems. The new equipment has improved system reliability, reduced downtime, strengthened campus security, and allows our IT management partner to monitor and troubleshoot the network remotely.

This summer also brought important preservation work to one of the Sanctuary’s historic stained-glass windows. Window #39, known as the Te Deum Window, was carefully re-puttied and sealed to improve weather protection and preserve its structural integrity. The restoration included cleaning and polishing the glass and lead, applying new weather-resistant glazing putty and structural sealant, and sanding, priming, and repainting the exposed steel support bars to help protect them from corrosion for years to come.

Additional maintenance and capital improvements continue across the campus. Parking lots were being refreshed with new directional striping and improved accessible parking markings to enhance visibility and safety. Work also continues at the church manses, including a new air conditioning system and planned patio replacement at the Radnor Street property, as well as a widened driveway at the Fishers Road manse to improve vehicle access and snow removal.

While many of these projects take place out of sight, each one helps ensure that BMPC’s campus remains a safe, functional, beautiful, and welcoming place for generations to come.
