At Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, our commitment to anti-racism is rooted in our faith and in the belief that every person is created in the image of God. We recognize that racism—both personal and systemic—is a sin that harms individuals, communities, and the body of Christ. In response, we are called to confront this reality with courage, humility, and hope.

How We Engage Anti-Racism Work at BMPC:

1. Learning & Reflection
Our Anti-Racism Committee leads the congregation in deepening our understanding of racism’s history and ongoing impact through:

  • Book studies
  • Guest speakers
  • Film screenings
  • Workshops
These opportunities provide space for education, dialogue, and spiritual growth. Members are also encouraged to explore the BMPC Anti-Racism Suggested Reading List to begin or expand their learning.

2. Partnership & Outreach
We intentionally engage with organizations and churches led by or serving communities of color, building relationships grounded in mutual respect and shared goals. Our Outreach funding supports programs addressing racial disparities in:

  • Education
  • Housing
  • Healthcare
  • Criminal justice

3. Advocacy & Public Witness
As a church, we encourage public witness as an act of faith. Members participate in:

  • Letter-writing campaigns
  • Community conversations
  • Peaceful demonstrations
Our goal is to dismantle unjust systems and promote equity for all people.

4. Self-Examination & Congregational Transformation
We are committed to doing the hard internal work of:

  • Examining our own assumptions, practices, and privileges
  • Reflecting on ways to become a more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming congregation

This is lifelong work, and we acknowledge that the journey will not be perfect. But we move forward believing in transformation through God’s grace.

At BMPC, anti-racism is not just a program.
It is a commitment—a way of following Jesus more faithfully, loving our neighbors more fully, and becoming agents of reconciliation in a divided world.
