BMPC serves as caretaker to a remarkable collection of keyboard, bell, and string instruments, which support worship, concerts, and community events.
Sanctuary Organ
Inspired by 19th-century French organs, the Rieger Organ (2005) includes:
- 59 stops, 89 ranks, and 4,000+ pipes
- A French-style console with advanced technology (MIDI, sostenuto, organist profiles)
- A hand-carved oak case taking over 5,400 hours to complete
Chapel Organ
The Petty Madden organ (1995, expanded 2021) includes:
- Historic pipework dating back to 1887
- 34 stops, 41 ranks (2,200+ pipes)
- Three-manual console
- Used extensively for worship, concerts, weddings, and funerals
Harpsichord
Our French “double” harpsichord (1966, William Dowd) features:
- Two manuals (keyboards) and multiple choirs
- A model based on a 1770 Taskin harpsichord
- Commissioned by musical prodigy Dr. Merrill Kenneth Wolf
- Used in concert and worship settings
Carillon
BMPC’s 49-bell carillon, installed in 2005 and expanded in 2006, rings out across the community from our church tower. It:
- Was cast in the Netherlands by Petit & Fritsen
- Was assembled by the Verdin Company (Cincinnati, OH)
- Is played during Sunday mornings, Vespers, concerts, memorials, and weddings
Brunzema Portative Organ
A portable four-stop organ (1984), donated by John and Chara Haas, used for small ensembles and flexible concert programming.
Pianos
BMPC’s fine pianos support worship, rehearsals, and recitals.
- Baldwin SD10 Concert Grand – Formerly housed in the Academy of Music, now in the Sanctuary
- Steinway A (1916) – Fine Arts Center, restored in 2011 (gift of Jane & John McPhersen)
- Steinway A (1926) – Chapel, restored in 2025 (gift of May Toren)
Both Steinways were built during the “golden age” and professionally restored for concert-quality performance.
Our Handbells
BMPC is blessed with two full five-octave sets of Malmark handbells (C3–C8), totaling 61 bells per set. These bells are:
- Crafted from high-quality bronze
- Known for their resonance, clarity, and durability
- Housed in custom-designed carrying cases for safe storage and transport
We also use a two-octave set of handchimes (G4–G6), made of lightweight aluminum. These chimes offer a softer tonal option and are great for both ensemble and instructional use.
