Theologian-in-Residence
The Theologian-in-Residence Program was established in 1988 in honor of the ministry of The Rev. Dr. David Watermulder and his wife, Ruth Watermulder, who served BMPC for 25 years. This endowed lecture series brings renowned theologians and scholars into the congregation's life for a weekend in the fall, offering in-depth scholarship that engages with the contemporary life of the church. Past Theologians in Residence have included:
- Peter Gomes
- Walter Brueggeman
- Miroslav Volf
- John Dominic Crossen
- Jonathan Lee Walton
Community Forum
The BMPC Community Forum, established in 1997, reflects the church’s commitment to exploring the intersection of faith and public life. This lecture series invites thought leaders from a variety of fields—journalism, education, public service, science, the arts, and beyond—to speak on issues that shape our common life. Designed as a gift to the broader community, these events are free and open to the public, and they draw a broad audience from across the Main Line and the greater Philadelphia area. The Forum fosters conversations that stretch beyond the church’s walls and reminds us that faith is lived not only in sanctuaries but in the world. Past Community Forum speakers include:
- Matthew Desmond
- Brooke Gladstone
- Eddie Glaude Jr.
- Anthony Ray Hinton
- Anne Lamott
- Gwen Ifill
